| What is a Swift Solo?
Pictured left, a Swift Solo is a single-handed, three sail, sailing skiff.(No I don't want to debate the term.) Designed in 2000 by Bram Dally, originally as a trainer for his 49er, and the international class formed in 2003, the hull is cedar strip core with a carbon fiber/Kevlar/epoxy inner skin and an S-glass/epoxy outer skin. The spars are carbon and rigging, except for attachment points and spar maximum lengths, open for the builder to play with. The main and jib are trimmed off the same sheet. The pole launches and retrieves with the asymmetrical spinnaker. |
Note from the web lackey:
This site has replaced the old site because I have tried for months to transfer the old site from its original creator. I like much of what had been created but he made it known that he no longer wanted to support the site and my last e-mails have gone unanswered. This site will be paid for by the class when members decide it works for them and it will be owned by the class and updated by class members for the use of the class. I am not the best at creating pretty pictures so if you have comments or concerns, pleas e-mail me. Send me your comments and questions.
Much of the site is still under construction. I'll be updating it as time allows.
Are you building a Swift Solo or sailing one? Do you have pictures to prove it? Send them in. We all love to see construction and sailing photos. One of my favorite things about these boats is you can build it yourself and that brings out some very special people. It is interesting to hear the stories of how they got started, follies and foibles, and the adventures of the first time on the water. |
